Forces in Mind Trust (FiMT) has awarded £62,752 to Thinks Insight & Strategy for a project aimed at identifying the root causes of the challenge of engagement with support services to prepare for transition.
Whilst most Service personnel and families transition smoothly to civilian life, some face challenges. Current research shows that some of those who most need support services do not engage with them, but there is a lack of understanding of the root cause of this disconnect.
FiMT has funded Thinks Insight to bridge this understanding gap and provide potential solutions to improve engagement with support services for those transitioning out of the Armed Forces.
The project will last six months, reporting its findings in 2025.
Julia Ridpath, Director, Thinks Insight & Strategy and Max Mawby, Managing Director, Thinks Applied Behavioural Science said
“We are thrilled to be embarking on this programme of research and design with Forces in Mind Trust. At Thinks Insight & Strategy, we specialise in conducting sensitive and engaging research with diverse audiences. We have designed an approach that offers an extensive behavioural analysis of the issues, a deep exploration of the root causes of the problem, and the shaping of innovative interventions to support Service leavers and their families.”
Michelle Alston, Chief Executive of Forces in Mind Trust said
“Forces in Mind Trust exists to improve transition for all ex-Service personnel and families joining civilian life, but of particular importance to our mission is the small minority that struggle during their transition. However, a key challenge has been making sure these individuals engage with support services. We are pleased to award this funding to find solutions that help support reach those in our Armed Forces community that need it the most.”
