A 3-year trial of a new service that utilises Restorative Engagement to help ex-Service personnel and their families to improve relationships, communication and family functioning.

An 18-month study to be carried out by Dr MacManus entitled ‘Domestic violence and abuse among military spouses and partners: impact of military life and culture, perceptions of support available and barriers to seeking help’.

A 3-year project to extend and develop the Armed Forces Charities project, including a fully redeveloped website (www.armedforcescharities.org), 6 themed reports, and an updated edition of the “Sector Insight” report.

VFR Hub provides an online knowledge repository of military, veterans and families research, resources and literature, which is free at point of access, and enables users to search for research, researchers, institutions, communities of interest, collaborative opportunities, and raise queries/write posts.

A 15-month project investigating domestic violence and abuse (DVA) within military families in the UK by talking to people who currently provide, use, and refer to specialist DVA services, in order to determine what constitutes ‘specialist DVA provision’ for military families, and then sharing these findings with UK Refuges Online who will add services meeting these criteria to their online system specialism to enable workers to better support military families suffering DVA. Provision of a Transition Liaison for each of the Family Federations for 2 years to help design and implement a transition strategy that will empower and engage families in the transition process.

Demographic research into the future size, shape and needs of the Serving and ex-Officer community within the UK.

This two-year major study looked at the impact of traumatic limb loss on the families of those who have been injured. The research explored the experiences of traumatic limb loss from the perspective of the veteran and their family unit, to provide insight into, and understanding of, their needs and how they experience, manage and adapt to living with limb loss.

A grant was awarded to RAND Europe to review the relevant literature available concerning several aspects of the transition process for military families.

A grant to help fund an independent evaluation of the RBL’s pilot online mentoring platform. The project trialled an innovative method of delivering networking and guidance to members of the ex-Service community who were actively seeking employment.
