A two-year study on veterans with loss of functionality of limbs and their families’ everyday living experience.

The project, developed by Northumbria University in collaboration with the War Widows Association, aims to map and understand war widows’ experiences, identify the social participation services available to them, and examine their unmet needs.

A thorough and comprehensive piece of research, commissioned by FiMT, to examine the longer-term employment outcomes for ex-Service personnel. The research will explore how a person’s time in service, and the support received during transition, impacts on their longer-term employment outcomes.

The Armed Forces Project 2020 sees the continuation of the armedforcescharities.org.uk website and the production of two Focus on reports; Finance and Families.

An 18 month grant awarded for the ‘Evaluation of Glasgow’s Helping Heroes: A model for providing coordinated, holistic support to ex-Service personnel and their families’.

A 24 month study to explore offending behaviour among UK military personnel before, during and after service.

A grant of £310,143.98 over 28 months to conduct a Randomised Controlled Trial (RCT) of the InDEx smartphone application (app) to assess if it is effective in reducing alcohol consumption of veterans who drink at hazardous levels and are receiving, or have received, support for mental health symptoms in a clinical setting. Secondary aims are to assess the impact of InDEx on the quality of life of veterans, and to evaluate the benefit(s) to using digital technology in supporting service charities and the veteran community in the management and treatment of alcohol misuse in veterans.

A 10-month project to determine if there is an issue with regard to financial stability among military families. Should the research determine there is an issue, and that this issue is in part driven by characteristics intrinsic to service, the project will secondly examine potential interventions and recommendations to address this problem.
