Projects we have funded

The Contact Group is the collaboration of third sector, statutory providers and support organisations which deliver mental health support to the UK Armed Forces community. Contact members work to ensure that the Armed Forces community is provided with the best possible mental health advice and support, and that treatment pathways are as good as they can be. The award will fund a project officer and help with travel costs for the Group. This will enable Contact to continue to develop a substantial programme of work to help it achieve its aims of increasing the capacity of mental health services, developing best practice guidelines, supporting the planning of future services and understanding the needs of veterans.

A grant to support the Veterans Work project. Veterans Work, made-up of leading professional services firm Deloitte, the Armed Forces charity the Officers’ Association and The Forces in Mind Trust (FiMT), is a consortium of organisations whose collective aim is to improve our understanding of veteran employment.

Sponsorship of the 2020 Working Together Award which honours a person, team or organisation that has demonstrated an enduring commitment and a collaborative approach, engaging with external organisations to support the sector within the wider community.

A 6-month project to conduct a place-based, pilot exploration and feasibility assessment for an innovative new model for connecting ex-Service personnel and their spouses to the specific employment market represented by Small and Medium sized Enterprises (SMEs).

An 18 month project which will prove the concept of online mentoring for the ex-Service community.

Grant to support an independent review into the families of serving personnel.

A 28-month study led by Professor Sturt to undertake a small-scale randomised trial comparing two treatments: ‘Reconsolidation of Traumatic Memories (RTM)’ against ‘Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (TF-CBT)’ for ex-Service personnel with PTSD.

The Cobseo Housing Cluster, through co-chair Stoll will develop and deliver a campaign to help end veterans’ homelessness. This will include; increasing awareness within local authorities, as well as housing and advice agencies, of ex-Service personnel requesting housing support; and developing a more coordinated and collaborative approach throughout the housing and charitable sectors.

A three-year pilot study where an employability consultant is embedded within a mental and physical health clinical setting in the Wirral, Birkenhead.

The implementation of a pilot mental fitness initiative, named HeadFIT, is to be evaluated over 12-months by King’s College London thanks to a grant of £92,757 awarded by the Forces in Mind Trust. The initiative has been developed collaboratively by the Ministry of Defence (MOD) and the Royal Foundation to promote awareness and management of good mental fitness within the Armed Forces Community and to prevent the onset of poor mental health.
